Creating an Innovation Challenge in 5 Easy Steps

BY LIZ TREADWELL | 1 min read

If you haven’t created a crowdsourcing challenge on HeroX yet, then you’re missing out! We’ve simplified the process to get the important details upfront and allow you to get your competition up and running as quickly as possible. Here, we will highlight just how easy it is.

Step 1 - Select your challenge type

Are you just looking for ideas? Or are you wanting something more robust, like a prototype or ready-to-use product? Here’s where you can select what you want innovators to produce.

Step 2 - The challenge overview

Give your challenge a title, select a category or two that it falls under, and write a short (i.e elevator pitch) description. You can also upload an image that visually describes the competition in this step. All these fields will be displayed on the top portion of your HeroX page:

Where information added to the Challenge Overview step will be displayed

Step 3 - The problem statement

Here is where you outline the problem you’re trying to solve, note any current solutions and if you wish, why those current solutions don’t fully achieve your goal. Need help with this step? Visit our guide here to fill out this section.

Step 4 - The prize

What’s the total amount of money being offered for a solution? If you’re planning on awarding multiple winners, you can add that in later. If you are wanting to offer a non-monetary prize (e.g. contract opportunities or tickets to a conference/event), just contact us at gethelp@herox.com and we can get that setup for you. Pages 3 and 4 of this guide can also help you determine what prize amount to set.

Step 5 - The timeline

All you need to do is to enter the date you want your challenge to start accepting submissions in this step. When you click the orange “Continue” button and complete your draft, we will generate a full timeline automatically based on what challenge type you selected in Step 1. You are also welcome to edit the timeline created for you by going to the Timeline section within the Edit dashboard after you save your draft.
