Challenge Overview

The [RE]verse Pitch Competition, through a series of events and innovation prizes, inspires social entrepreneurs in Austin, Texas to help solve local zero waste challenges. 

Please note: This challenge is only open to individuals and businesses in Austin, TX who attended the opening pitch event on Feb. 10th.

Entrepreneurs are used to pitching their business idea to investors, partners, and anyone they might share an elevator ride with. In this competition, the tables will turn. The [RE]verse Pitch Competition is a social innovation program to help turn valuable raw materials that are currently leaving local businesses, non-profits, and institutions as waste into the foundation of new social enterprises. Materials leaving these organizations and entering the waste stream is the problem we're trying to solve and we're pitching to you, the social entrepreneurs of Austin, to help create a solution!

Competitors work with mentors & advisors to develop repurposing business ideas and compete for Innovation Prizes to help start this new venture.

Ideation Workshop
This class is designed for people beginning their entrepreneurial journey. It's most valuable to those interested in starting their own business or who have been in business for less than two years. Before you invest your time and funding into your small business discover the “lean start-up process” and how it differs from a traditional start-up plan.

It will be held at the Entrepreneur Center of Austin, located at 4029 S Capital of Texas Hwy, Ste. 110, Austin, TX 78704. The workshop will start at 5:30 PM. RSVP at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/reverse-pitch-ideation-workshop-tickets-92240749565.

Story Telling Workshop
This class is designed for people beginning their entrepreneurial journey. It's most valuable to those interested in starting their own business or who have been in business for less than two years. The Social Entrepreneurship Learning Lab (SELL) will teach a workshop session introducing attendees to strategies for pitching social ventures, such as as SROI, writing storytelling narratives, and using the FAB Model.

It will be held at the Entrepreneur Center of Austin, located at 4029 S Capital of Texas Hwy, Ste. 110, Austin, TX 78704. The workshop will start at 5:30 PM. RSVP at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/reverse-pitch-story-telling-workshop-virtual-session-tickets-99745365072.

The first round of judging will take place online beginning Monday, March 30th. Judging will finish on April 10th and finalists will be announced Monday, April 13th.

Finalist/Mentor Pitch Practice Start
Finalists will be announced today. Finalists will practice their pitch with their mentor through Monday, April 20th.

Finalist/Pitch Coach Practice Session Start
Finalists will schedule a pitch practice with a Communication / Pitch Coach. Must meet with Pitch Coach on Tuesday, April 21st.

ALL Pitch Practice End
Finalists should schedule and complete pitch practice sessions with both their mentor and the Pitch Coach by Tuesday, April 21st.

Won
The Final Pitch Competition will take place in-person on Monday, April 27th at Rowling Hall. Winners will be announced at the event immediately following the pitches.
