introduction
title
Farm to City
short description
Enable Austinites to order fresh, local produce online and then pick it up at the Farmers Market during relaxing weekend mornings.
Eligibility
Which focus area(s) does this proposed app address?
Technology
Education
Clean Energy
Health
How will your app make an impact?
Farmers with limited time to spend on the computer will be able to easily add a few pictures and text about their farm and/or produce and establish an online presence with one or two hours effort.
Consumers will be able to pre-order the produce, and pick it up the following weekend at the farmer’s market.
Why is your app next-generation?
A farmer in the field checking his crops will instantly be notified that a consumer ordered and desires to pick-up a certain produce at the farmers market in the coming weekend.
Today’s technology makes this possible.

Austin’s trend towards live-work communities and co-working spaces align well with the farmer’s markets and we intend to connect them.

Accessibility and Inclusion
We assume that the small farmers have a computer or a smartphone but do not have the time to develop a website or spend lots of time on-line.
Our app will enable the farmer to upload a few pictures of the farm or produce and write a few words if they choose. The website will make this process very easy by having empty fields in which the farmer can just upload the pictures and/or text.

Additional services which will benefit the technologically under-served farmers:
educate farmers how to use the platform to create an easily-deployable web profile.
handle online marketing and sales
website for small farmers that do not yet have one.
Enable farmers that never had sales online to start connecting with buyers and consumers in the city. Sell and market online.
If your team wins, what will the prize money be used for?
Prize money will be used for:
- development of the app.
- web hosting.
- automated marketing platforms like mailchimp.
- integration of platforms such as paypal.
