Hi all,
Thank you all, so much, for participating in this competition! We are grateful for the entries, and were excited to hear your messages from around the world about what brings you Hope in your darkest time. We hope this can inspire others, and appreciate the work you did heading in to the competition.
It was brought to our attention that there were issues with voting, so we ended up having to bring in an outside IT team to analyze the votes to ensure each and every one was legitimate. Unfortunately, in doing so, three teams were disqualified due to questionable voting practices.
We will be disqualifying those teams now, and announcing the winners shortly. Thanks again for your partipation! Please continue sharing our message for Hope, and if so inspired please bring Hope to children in your community via our lessons at www.hopefulminds.org.
In Gratitude,
Kathryn
From the perspective of the way you intend to break this down, I consider it an act of abuse to disqualify people's submissions based on some illegitimate votes that may exist everywhere, instead of focusing on counting the real votes.
There are 4 core rationals for this:
1/ you used a corruptible and weak voting system while at the same time the vote was your only judging criteria;
2/ it’s unfair to hold participants accountable for the way some of their supporters chose to vote;
3/ it’s irresponsible to deny also your and the intermediate platform share of responsibility for the weaknesses of the voting system or to put it 100% on participants and their fans shoulders;
4/ Your IT team should be able to count both legitimate and illegitimate votes. At least, approximately. And announce the real vs illegitimate ones more rather than announcing only the illegitimate ones (fake news approach). Otherwise, you’ll make public accusations based on incomplete analysis and false judgement.
I know 100% that my video had the most real votes and had also the highest engagement rate and views.
I don’t know how you’ll sort this out, but I do hope you will act with fairness towards all participants, that your IT folks will count the real votes in all cases and that you’ll award the most voted one with whatever you consider legitimate votes.
Otherwise, if your anonymous tip didn’t happen, you would have obliged participants with the most real votes to lose in the favour of the ones with fake votes. In the case you’ll identify also illegitimate votes for my video, I am glad it happened because an act of higher injustice was just wiped out.
Thanks for giving us the opportunity to work on this beautiful and relevant challenge.
