We would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who is commenting, sharing, and asking questions in the challenge forum. If you haven't checked out the activity already, we recommend you do so!

Fellow innovator, Needhi, submitted a few great questions on Monday and we want to be sure everyone receives the answer:

  1. What is the primary focus of the challenge?
    • The primary focus of this challenge is to determine the composition (amount and grade) BEFORE or AFTER UNLOADING from the truck.
  2. What is the shape and size of non-metal under consideration?
    • Any shape & size including granules
  3. Do you have limits to how much non-metal you will accept from a truck?
    • Truckloads typically contain no more than 25% of non-metal. If a truck contains more than 25% non-metal than it may be rejected. We do not pay for non-metal scraps.
  4. Are you interested in a mechanical solution or only a digital solution?
    • We will accept any solution as long as it accomplishes the goal of the challenge.

Scrap inspectors refer to the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries' manual for guidance on how to classify scrap materials including: Non-Ferrous, Ferrous, Glass, Plastic, Paper, Electronics and Tire Materials
