Tamer M. A. Mohamed, Ph.D., M.Sc., has broad expertise in molecular cardiology and drug screening in addition to cardiac regeneration and epigenetics. During his research endeavors, he studied novel mechanisms and therapies for cardiac hypertrophy and heart failure. Most recently, his laboratory established a novel system for long-term culture of human and pig heart slices and efficiently demonstrated the efficacy of new cardiac regenerative therapies in such pre-clinical models (Ou et al., Circulation Research, 2019). This technology has opened a new avenue of research to explore pathophysiological mechanisms and toxicities in primary pig and human heart tissues.
