Mert Akin, a mechanical engineer, graduated as valedictorian of his class and college at the Dokuz Eylul University in 2013. He worked in the composites industry during 2013-2018 in multiple positions, including engineering manager where he designed and developed the Xenon Propellant Unit of the first indigenous geostationary satellite of Turkey. While full-time working, he pursued his graduate studies and received his MSc. Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Middle East Technical University in 2018. Mert is the recipient of the prestigious University of Miami Fellowship and is currently a research associate at the Florida International University and also a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Miami. His research interests mainly focus on energy storage systems, including solid-state batteries and supercapacitors, and electrochemical lithium extraction. Mert is also a reviewer for the esteemed peer-reviewed journals in the field of energy storage including the Journal of Energy Chemistry, International Journal of Energy Research, the International Journal of Hydrogen Energy, Energy Storage, and Ionics. He served as the first president of the student organization of the Florida Engineering Society (FES) at the University of Miami. Mert is a firm believer in the clean energy revolution.
