Dr. Karestan C. Koenen, Ph.D. serves as Expert Advisor to the team. She is a Professor of Psychiatric Epidemiology at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, an Institute Member at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, and a Research Scientist at Massachusetts General Hospital. With an h-index of 133 and over 560 peer-reviewed publications, she is among the world's most highly cited researchers (Cross-Field). Dr. Koenen directs the Population Mental Health Lab at Harvard and the Broad Trauma Initiative at the Broad Institute. As Affiliated Faculty at Harvard's Center on the Developing Child since 2004, her research focuses on identifying modifiable social and biological factors that promote resilience in youth and young adults — including the developmental origins of PTSD and depression in adolescents. She holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Boston University, an M.A. in Developmental Psychology from Columbia University, and a B.A. in Economics from Wellesley College. Her interdisciplinary expertise in adolescent mental health, population-scale epidemiology, and evidence-based intervention design directly informs the team's approach to supplementation and youth wellbeing.
