Dr. Harun Or Rashid Howlader (D.Eng.) joined the Hawai‘i Natural Energy Institute (HNEI) in 2023 as a postdoctoral researcher. Before his tenure at HNEI, he served as a postdoctoral fellow under the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) at the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, University of the Ryukyus, Japan. He holds doctoral and master's degrees from the same esteemed department and university. Dr. Howlader obtained a JSPS Young Scientist Scholarship for three years and achieved remarkable academic recognition by receiving the President’s Honorary Award, equivalent to the best student awards for both his Ph.D. and Master’s degrees. Prior to his JSPS postdoctoral appointment, Dr. Harun contributed his expertise at Power Guard Co. Ltd., a renewable operation and maintenance company in Japan, in the role of System Engineer-Solar (PV). His contributions to the field have earned him multiple best paper awards from IEEE national and international conferences. Additionally, he received the JSPS Kakenhi research grant twice, spanning two years and three years respectively. Dr. Howlader's extensive research interests encompass a wide spectrum of topics, including power systems optimization, IoT controllers, microgrids, smart grids, distributed generation, power system design, utility-scale renewable energy integration, power flow analysis, techno-economic analysis, energy storage systems, grid automation, grid resilience, unit commitment, power system stability, demand-side and supply-side management, power markets, and demand response strategies. Throughout his illustrious scientific career, Dr. Harun has been an active participant in numerous professional activities. He has been sought after as a conference chair and guest editor for prestigious events and journals. Dr. Howlader has also made significant contributions as an invited speaker, research article reviewer, and research proposal reviewer for renowned journals and esteemed institutes. His commitment to professional growth is underscored by his status as an IEEE Senior Member and his involvement with IEEE Membership for Young Professionals. Furthermore, Dr. Howlader's dedication to practical research is evident through his successful completion of several impactful projects in the field of renewable energy development.
