Dan G. Dimitriu’s Short Bio Dan Dimitriu has been practicing as a licensed professional engineer in various industries for almost 35 years and has taught engineering courses concurrently for more than 30 years at various institutions. In 2001, he joined San Antonio College full-time as the Coordinator of its Engineering program. In parallel, he was also an adjunct professor at the University of Texas at San Antonio and Our Lady of the Lake University. He has been involved with several engineering societies and became a member of the Two-Year College Division of ASEE in 2002. He is an expert in 3-D visualization training; he published two books and created several educational games related to that subject. His research interests are in finding new methods to improve training in spatial skills, design, new plastic materials, and advancing STEM education. He created a new “Mind Fitness” program and is presently implementing it in various organizations. AWARDS He was elected San Antonio College Piper Professor in 2006 and 2016 and received the 2006 NISOD Excellence in Teaching Award. He was named “San Antonio’s Top Professor” by Scene in SA Monthly in 2006. In the fall of 2013, he participated as a faculty advisor for a team of students selected for the Minority University Research and Education NASA Undergraduate Research program with Microgravity University. He received the 2015 Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Mentoring. He is also the recipient of the 2019 ASEE Meritorious Award for Connecting Engineering and Technological Literacy. After his retirement, he was awarded the Professor Emeritus title by Alamo Colleges.
