Behrad Habib Afshar obtained a bachelor's degree in Electrical and Electronic engineering from Imperial College London in 2014. He then completed his M.S and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical engineering from Stanford University in 2016 and 2022 respectively. His doctoral thesis was focused on the development of high-precision optical interferometric sensors in silicon microstructures. During his Ph.D., Behrad developed a new class of self-aligning optical micro-sensors consisting of a spring-loaded MEMS diaphragm secured at the tip of an optical fiber to detect extremely weak acoustic and inertial waves at a low fabrication and assembly cost.
