1. Lack of knowledge about existence of cancer clinical trials amongst the patients
2. Several medical practitioners do not want to engage in clinical trial recruitment due to lack of knowledge and due to added amount of work
3. Lack of availability of clinical trials in the community hospitals where patients receive their primary treatments.
I will be addressing the barrier that affects both the medical practitioner and the patient i.e. lack of knowledge Barriers exist because clinical trial area is still a developing field.
Recruitment of participants but I will target faith based organization to conduct this study
If both the clinicians and the participants are educated then I expect to increase the accrual rates atleast by 30%
Perception can only be changed by evidence of facts and education
By conducting a survey based study that will use education as a source of intervention
Increase in numbers will be observed within 6 months of implementation
Locally maintaining the % increase in the accrual rates can be done by continuous education and follow-up after a month to see if the participant of the clinical trial education study participated in any clinical trials or at least asked their doctors for their options to participate in cancer clinical trials.
The study will be approved by Institutional review board
This proposal is targeting both the medical provider and the community and this is unique. Others have only tried targeting one system at a time.
