We are developing a Multi-Stage Adaptive Seal to rapidly and safely close submerged high-pressure conduits (3–25 ft diameter) in emergency scenarios. Our design uses expandable thermo-elastic composite liners with heat-activated shape memory alloys and robust sealing interfaces to achieve 95–98% flow reduction without relying on non-structural surfaces. Our multidisciplinary team combines expertise in structural engineering, hydraulics, geotechnical engineering, and advanced materials, ensuring a practical, deployable solution for real-world dam and reservoir applications.
