Pet It Forward
short description
A crowdsourced platform that links individual families in need of help keeping their pets at home with a national network of donors.
Eligibility
Identify a resource or support that assists in keeping pets at home (500 characters)
Pet it Forward is a social platform that instantly connects individual pet owners in need of caring for and keeping their pets in their home with a national base of other pet owners and pet lovers who are willing to support these individuals through immediate online purchases of pet supplies and services thru established retail (e.g. Amazon) and non-profit (e.g. Best Friends) resources. The power of this platform is in the individual impact and simplicity of giving using existing tools.
Identify the barriers to efficiently distributing this support (500 characters)
Barriers include building (or licensing) the technology platform, creating a trusted source and process for entering individuals and their specific needs (e.g. John H. needs to have his new puppy spayed, cost $25), establishing online and offline partnerships with retail and charitable outlets, building a network of national "friends" (donors) through marketing and promotion, ongoing communications (online and off) and financial and technical management.
Suggest strategies to effectively distribute support despite barriers (500 characters)
The power of this platform is in building a community of tens of thousands of pet owners and pet lovers seeking to help others keep their pets healthy, happy and safe at home in small ways, every month. This is charitable crowdsourcing pet ownership support across the country through individual (and anonymous) donations. Start-up Purposity has successfully built a similar platform for human charitable support. Best Friends can be as successful (or more so) with pet owners and their pets.
