We are proud to announce the finalists in the HORAO – The It Doesn’t Take a Brain Surgeon Challenge.

By the close of the project, we had received 45 entries. And after 6 weeks of judging, the finalists attending the Brainweek Bern conference in March are:

·       Cliff Edwards, Optical Tractography of Brain Fiber Orientation

·       Ivan Gusachenko, Optical polarimetry for brain fibers visualisation

·       Alicia Martinez, GlioMap

·       Leon Weninger's team, Delimiting Brain Tumors with Polarized Light

·       Brent Weyers's team, ms-TRFS for In-Situ Brain Tumor Detection

The 5 finalist teams will present their solutions to a jury and public audience at the conference in Bern, Switzerland. The winner selected at the conference will be posted on the HORAO challenge page after the event has concluded.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of the innovators who participated in this challenge. While only one innovator ultimately wins the award, there were so many other insightful solutions that we are confident many will do great things in the future. Thank you all for helping make this crowdsourcing project a success.

In addition, we would like to thank the Inselspital staff and evaluation jury panel for supporting our efforts in this initiative.

Lastly, we would like to thank all our supporters, partners, commenters and anyone else who in any way contributed to our community as well as the prize. Without you, we would not have had the innovator turnout that we did.

Sincerely,

The HORAO team
