I depict, sometimes my own transient face into the scene ... (or) other faces, faces in the urban jungle ... alienated from nature. The theme of displacement is suitable for me because, as a gay Australian, I have experienced my own social and cultural sense of displacement. All immigrants are displaced, so Australia is a land of displacement. This screen print installation / lunar landscape on black papers shows the ‘alien’ face (‘man in the moon’) and becomes a symbol for the foreigner, a traveler, a gay man, an astronaut or an immigrant in another land or ‘alien’ place. Much of the imagery also incorporates the faces, shadows, or spirits of others in / on the journey (as the moon journeys from page/ space to page/ space from no particular start/ end) with the symbol and meaning of the face/faces/shadows/spirits changing from place to place (page to page/ time and space. The work is semi-abstract, sometimes dark, often just short of surreal, blending figurative and abstract images.
