Google makes a big stride in support of its benevolent public image today by releasing TensorFlow, advanced deep-learning software at the heart of their photo-recognition tools, as an open source tool for the public.
From the Wired article:
"...and in literally giving the technology away, Google believes it can accelerate the evolution of AI. Through open source, outsiders can help improve on Google’s technology and, yes, return these improvements back to Google."
A victory for democracy in computing, a step forward for the development and application of AI, and ultimately a smart move for the company.
