Overview

CoastalHacks is a San Diego-based hackathon open to anyone: you need not live near a coast to participate! We are a beginner friendly, virtual competition that will take place over Labor Day weekend. Individuals or teams will build projects over the weekend and be judged in a variety of tracks. No experience is needed to participate!

RULES

OUR HACKATHON IS DEDICATED TO PROVIDING A SAFE AND COMFORTABLE ENVIRONMENT AND HARASSMENT-FREE EXPERIENCE FOR EVERYONE, REGARDLESS OF THE FOLLOWING:

  • gender
  • gender identity and expression
  • age
  • sexual orientation
  • disability
  • physical appearance
  • body size
  • race
  • ethnicity
  • nationality
  • religion
  • political views
  • previous hackathon attendance or lack of
  • computing experience or lack of
  • chosen programming language or tech stack

WE DO NOT TOLERATE HARASSMENT OF HACKATHON PARTICIPANTS IN ANY FORM. SEXUAL LANGUAGE AND IMAGERY IS NOT APPROPRIATE AT ANY HACKATHON VENUE, THIS INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING.

  • any parties associated to the hackathon
  • social media
  • any other online media

HACKATHON PARTICIPANTS VIOLATING THESE RULES MAY BE EXPELLED FROM THE HACKATHON AT THE DISCRETION OF THE HACKATHON ORGANISERS.

The cash value of this prize assumes 5 people per winning team and bases the value on the current rate scaled up to 10 years.

The cash value of this prize assumes 5 people per winning team and bases the value of the prize on $1 per sticker.

Leading Learners EdTech Bundle (5)

The cash value of this prize bases the value of the prize on $500 per bundle.

1-year Qoom Pro Plan Package

This prize is for the Qoom award, which is given to the team that scores highest and uses Qoom to design a web app.

1 Month Replit Hacker (131)

This is a participation prize given to all signups. The 131 projects is the amount of signups at the time of this update.

1 Year Free Taskade Ultimate (131)

This is a participation prize given to all signups. The 131 projects is the amount of signups at the time of this update.

  • Fit with Theme
    Scored 1-5 based on how well the project fits with the given theme.
  • Innovation
    Scored 1-5 based on how well the project uses creative methods and technologies to solve a problem.
  • Functionality
    Scored 1-5 based on how efficient and reliably the project works.
  • Design
    Scored 1-5 based on how easy and smooth the UI is.
  • Aesthetic
    Scored 1-5 based on how the project uses colors, graphics, and other design elements to enhance the appearance of the overall project.
  • "Coolness"
    Scored 1-5 based on how "cool" the project is in the eyes of the judges.
