bio
Sass Peress is iSun Energy's founding president and CEO. In 1988, at the age of 28, he founded ICP Solar Technologies, which would go on to become Quebec's first ever solar panel manufacturer. Inspired by the core values of innovation, exceeding expectations, integrity, commitment and the creation of shared value for all—Sass crafted unique approaches to the marketing of solar systems worldwide by paying more attention to the "watt for" than the "watts". This approach allowed customers to truly understand the value proposition in their own language and his team to focus on enhancing the lives of others through their eyes, rather than a particular product or technology focus. In addition to guiding the firm’s strategic development, Sass initiated lean manufacturing and cross-functional development processes for his teams based on agile methods and innovation metrics. By aligning the interests of various stakeholders, Sass and his teams have always focused on the voice of customer as a valued component of any entreprise. Following an exit from ICP Solar in 2009, Sass help co-found a company which earned investments of over US$12M from General Motors and a variety of venture capital funders to develop GM's renewable energy and electric vehicle charging strategy. Helping to design a solar powered EV charging station in concert with the launch of the GM Electric Volt, he went to found renewz, at the genesis of the solar carport industry. In 2018, Sass' founded isun Energy LLC in the United States to begin the building of its US affiliate and team. Named by Ernst and Young as a finalist in their "Entrepreneur of the Year" award in Canada, Sass is frequently featured as an energy and electric vehicle strategy expert in the media, and regularly advises business and government leaders on the potential of renewable energy and electrification strategies. A social entrepreneur helping elevate the discussion on how to "make a difference" is what motivates him to do better each and every day.
