Townsville, State of Queensland, Australia
bio
Dr John McLellan (BSc. Hons, PhD) is currently the Managing Director and Principal Geoscience Consultant at GMEX (Geological Modelling for Exploration), and was a Senior Research Fellow within the Economic Geology Research Unit, James Cook University for several years. He now maintains an Adjunct Senior Research Fellow position within the School, where he continues to lecture Advanced Techniques in Exploration. John focuses on the importance of geological processes e.g. deformation, fluid flow, structural controls and thermal budget on mineralisation events. He specializes in using both discrete and continuum numerical methods and coupling techniques to solve many geological process driven questions, ultimately leading to highly improved predictive capacity for mining and exploration companies. John has vast experience in many different geological environments and mineral systems including Fe-Oxide Cu-Au, Cu, Pb-Zn-Ag, Mesothermal Archean Au, Epithermal Au, REE and Volcanogenic U-Mo systems. John has published more than 40 peer reviewed articles and numerous government and industry reports. His current position as a principal consultant with GMEX is focused on assisting mining and exploration companies in target delineation, some recent successes include Mt Isa Cu with Glencore, Sunrise Dam Gold Mine with AngloGold Ashanti Australia and Red October Mine with Saracen Minerals. John has been the recipient of several awards throughout his career, with a recent industry focused achievement being the Townsville Region Resources Industry Professional of the Year 2011.
