bio
Dr. Rick Damiani (PhD in Aerospace Engineering), Principal and Founder of The Floating Wind Technology Company, is a Licensed Professional Engineer that specializes in design and analysis of wind energy components. In his over twenty years of practice, he covered aero-hydro-aero-servo-elastic modeling of turbines, aero-structural design and analysis of blades and support structures, and turbine technical due diligence. Rick worked for 10 years at the National Wind Technology Center (NREL), where he helped develop design codes (systems engineering tools such as TowerSE, RotorSE, and JacketSE within WISDEM™) for wind turbine support structures and blades, as well as aero-elastic codes for horizontal, vertical-axis, and airborne wind turbines (OpenFAST and KiteFAST). Recently, Rick worked on innovative pre-stressed concrete tower design tools (PSCSE) and co-authored standards for foundations and tall wind turbine towers with ACI (ITG-9R-16) and IEC (61400-6). He is the lead inventor of the SpiderFLOAT, an innovative floating offshore wind substructure that uses modular concrete and moment free connections, and the 3DCSA, a three-dimensionally prestressed concrete suction anchor. Since 2019, Rick has been focusing on design of wind turbines for the distributed wind market, design of innovative floating offshore wind systems, and support structure design and analysis for on-shore and offshore wind turbines. floatingwindtech.com
