“Helping students discover how physics explains the world through hands-on experiments and inquiry.”
bio
I'm the Science Department Chair at Northfield Mount Hermon School, where I've taught Introduction to Physics since 1999. I hold graduate degrees in earth science from Dartmouth College and an undergraduate degree from Washington State University. My teaching philosophy centers on a physics-first, lab-based approach — students learn energy, matter, and motion through hands-on experimentation before moving into other sciences. I also serve as head coach of NMH's boys' rowing program and faculty advisor for our annual STEM Symposium, where students pursue independent research projects spanning drone technology, electromagnetism, molecular modeling, and more. Before NMH, I coached rowing at the Mt. Baker Rowing & Sailing Center in Seattle and at a boarding school near Boston. When I'm not in the lab or on the river, you'll find me hiking the woods around campus or kayaking the Connecticut River.
