Disaster relief: Floods?

Hi,

You mention disaster relief scenarios, would a flash flood condition be targeted for this award? We have a technology that can produce potable water from saline/brackish waters. However since our technology needs a slightly higher density energy source than waves, a flooding situation is an apt crisis/solution situation. Please share your thoughts.

Thanks,
Teja

Hi Teja,

Could you please provide some additional clarification on your question? You mention flash flood conditions, do you mean surge driven flood inundation?

Thank you!

Hi,

By flash floods, we mean a situation where a stream, river or a channel is overflowing with muddy or brackish water due to a heavy rainfall or snow melt or a hurricane or any other natural calamity. This is a common problem in urban areas close to the shore, and the drinking water becomes an issue when low lying areas get disconnected or the potable water channels are disrupted. You mentioned disaster relief applications, so we wonder if that particular scenario can be targeted?

Thanks,
Teja

Hi Teja,

Thanks for the clarification. We would suggest that you and your team focus on the wave powered aspects of your innovation.

We appreciate you and your team considering other aspects of disaster relief, however generating energy via wave power to desalinate water is the main focus of this competition and what the judges will be evaluating. It may be helpful to review the prize rules under the resources tab for the specific evaluation criteria in the CONCEPT stage of the contest.

Thanks again for your question and clarification!
