About the first forecasting day

It seems the first submission day is due 2/13 local 10 am. I'm wondering whether the first forecasting is to predict the value from 2/14 0:00 to 2/15 0:00 local time for each site, without complete available data on 2/13? Please help clarify it thank you.

Hi Fangyuan,

Thanks for your question.

You are correct. The forecasts have a 14 hour lead time(the time between forecast submission, and the time period described by the forecast), meaning that the forecast submitted at 10am on 2/13 should contain data for 2/14 hours 00:00 - 23:00 in the local time of each site (each data point containing data from HH:00-HH:59).

Forecasts need to be made by the 10AM deadline at each site, each day regardless of data availability.

Thank you,

To add onto Leland's reply: the forecast schedule in the competition is inspired by the day-ahead forecast schedules used by system operators across the US. For example, the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) requires forecasts by 10am Pacific for the next day (e.g., forecasts for Monday are due by 10am Sunday, forecasts for Tuesday are due by 10am Monday, etc.).
