introduction
title
Scalable monitoring & control of 10,000 heliostats
short description
Develop a method to enable real time monitoring, communication, control and alignment of individual heliostats in a large field (>10,000).
Eligibility
Full Description
Develop a method to enable real time communication, control, and alignment of individual heliostats in a large-scale deployment (MW level, >10,000 heliostats). Real time control should enable maximum annualized optical efficiency by optimizing each individual heliostat’s tracking accuracy and canting while minimizing attenuation losses and reflectivity. Synchronization of soiling information collected in field surveys (e.g., drone tracking) should be included to identify locational data on each heliostat reflectivity and soiling level. This data should be incorporated into field maintenance schedules.

Submissions may include up to 5 links to research literature that provides background and relevant patents. Such links can be to a website article, a Wikipedia page or for National Lab IP, https://www.labpartnering.org/lab-technologies. It is the Prize Administrator’s hope that the quality of literature referenced in the submissions will factor into voting results.
