Green Energy Growers Coalition

Lead by Green Careers Dallas (GCD) whose mission is disrupting poverty through green career training and community education. Working in the lowest income areas of South and southern Dallas, these urban farms and community gardens grow fresh food in the heart of food and economic desserts, areas of historic racial and environmental injustices. Getting water and electricity to the sites is a challenge either due to funding and/or permitting. The coalition will train community members to install solar lighting and solar that will power irrigation pumps, thereby building resilience for these urban growers as the effects of climate change (i.e., drought) worsen. GCD also provides solar installation training and connection to solar employers as pathway to living wage work, recruiting from all coalition members and beyond.
